Vanishing Point

It seems that where we meet is where we part
Just past the horizon of the heart
There’s a line that we can’t cross
For each gain there’s a loss
How could I not have known it from the start?

It seems where we converged was just illusion
Perspective only adds to the confusion
And somehow I couldn’t see
That you could never see me
Pardon my unwarranted intrusion

We’ve come to the vanishing point
That I never thought we’d reach
The vanishing point
Experience can’t teach you to avoid
Where everything you’ve built must be destroyed

The road that we traveled down was long
How could I know the signposts were all wrong?
By the time that it was clear
That the hour to part was here
All that we had in common was this song

We’ve come to the vanishing point
That I never thought we’d reach
The vanishing point
Experience can’t teach you to avoid
Where everything you’ve built must be destroyed
It seems that where we meet is where we part

That Summer

That summer that there was no sun I see it as though yesterday
When somehow in the rain and fog I felt my lover slip away
I seemed then like a carefree guy already past the bloom of youth
Who found that life fit comfortably without a constant search for truth

While she was one who wouldn't stay encased in ease for very long
Always on the lookout for another road, another song
So she asked me to come along with her to find what could be found
And I could not hear what she said, but clung to my familiar ground

And when I turned she had flown from my sight
And then my soul tumbled into the night
Too late to reach her my friend
The end, the end

And now, although the sun shines clear, still somehow I've yet to find
One to join me on my journey, thrill my heart, open my mind
And still I look in strangers’ eyes in hopes that I will someday see
The love that I cannot forget who whispered softly "come with me”

Miss Pizazz

I know she's from the south, but that don't mean she's sunny
She's always got a smile, but life's not all that funny
Her pain is hard to see, still I'll bet you even money
That when she's all alone, and she's always all alone
Life looks like a sham to Miss Pizazz from Birmingham

She tries to be the picture that she thinks is in his mind
Not too clinging, not too needy, not too fat, not too unkind
And if that's not enough for him she'll blame herself and find
That when she's all alone, and she's always all alone
It's all not worth a damn to Miss Pizazz from Birmingham

I wish that she could see the way that she appears to me
The moments that she lets herself be seen
Then I’m sure she would feel more free to grow to be what she could be
Not just a picture from a magazine

And when someday she does take wing to frolic in the blue
Then she will surely understand what I know to be true
To see yourself through others’ eyes presents a twisted view
When you claim life as your own, there’s no need to feel alone
Say “take me as I am”, Miss Pizazz from Birmingham

City of Nets

I came here long ago in expectation
Of better times and greater harmony
But now it's very clear to me there can be no salvation
In such a place, so take a tip from me

Don't depend on the City of Nets
It will drag you down
Its the kind of town
That has no regrets

I descend through the City of Nets
Under steel gray skies
Under prying eyes
Under seas of debt

Where kindness is illusory
Where money is all usury
And those above are too serene to care
Where clutching hands reach out for me
Survival is in doubt for me
And even the devout don't have a prayer

There's no end to the City of Nets
There's a coming day
When you too must pay
All your losing bets
It doesn't matter how long you look for a sense of rest
You'll never find it in the City of Nets

Where kindness is illusory
Where money is all usury
And those above are too serene to care
Where clutching hands reach out for me
Survival is in doubt for me
And even the devout don't have a prayer

There's no end to the City of Nets
There's a coming day
When you too must pay
All your losing bets
It doesn't matter how long you look for a sense of rest
You'll never find it in the City of Nets

Inevitability

My life was spinning in a maelstrom
Until a female came in sight
And though I don't yet know her name or where she hails from
Something about it feels so right.

Like a river flows to sea
So your love will flow to me
Though you don't know it currently
I swear it's true

As the night turns into day
I see that you will turn my way
And it will dawn on you to say
You love me too

Sometimes man's schemes may go awry
What fate forbids will not come true
Sometimes man's dreams must say goodbye
But nature smiles on me and you

Like Winter follows Summer's heat
We're bound to fall when our eyes meet
And we will spring with joy to greet
What's meant to be
Inevitably
You and me

Lost World

Sometimes it seems so long ago, those days when I was young
And yet the taste of yesterday still lingers on my tongue
These visions of a vanished world compel me to explain
What we have lost to never find again

There was a time when flowers bloomed, the air was fresh and clear
And sunlight was a glory then and not something to fear
The birds would sing the day away in trees that grew so green
We didn’t mean to steal that from our children

In Autumn we would walk for hours on trails of red and gold
In Springtime all was green and unexpected
In Summer rivers flowed to sea with sparkling fish untold
And Winter brought its snow and rain, I laugh to think that we complained

And there were bees, the golden bees that you will never know
And hawks that flew in circles as we walked down below
We drank from streams, it was no dream, I swear that it was true
My God, how could we ever let it happen

The snows have melted from the peaks, the rivers gone to clay
The nests are all deserted; the birds have flown away
The forests cleared and disappeared are flower, fish and tree
Except within these memories that I offer

For you who’ll never know these things I bow my head and cry
A world long gone to everyone with greed the reason why
Too much, too soon, too often with no thought of days to come
Too late to bring it back now that we’ve lost it

In Autumn we would walk for hours on trails of red and gold
In Springtime all was green and unexpected
In Summer rivers flowed to sea with sparkling fish untold
And Winter brought its snow and rain, I laugh to think that we complained

“You mad old fool,” I hear you say, and I cannot deny
It’s bound to seem unreal today, these tales of times gone by
But thoughtless ones like me who used it up can still recall
A world of plenty lost to us forever

Devotional

Speaking of religion, I thought of you today
And all the things I care for came in view
And while I mean no disrespect to any other faith or sect
Let me worship at the church of you

Seeking no redemption, nor absolution fair
I must confess you took me by surprise
When first I saw the miracle that made my heart grow lyrical
And caught a glimpse of heaven in your eyes

And if you are an Goddess, then perhaps we're all divine
A pantheon with nothing to compare
An if we're merely mortal, and our clocks tick madly on
Let's not waste the time we have to share

Blessings may surround us, and we may never know
Until another opens up the door
*And so I study catechism of you, my one and only "ism"
And whisper to you "Dear one, teach me more"
And so I study catechism, and pray there'll never be a schism
Cause darling you’re the one that I adore

The Odd Get Even

Intelligence can’t guarantee contentment
Particularly if you’re young and nerdy
And yet, if you just nurture your resentment
You’re bound to strike it rich before you’re thirty

You might find me a little odd, I won’t deny it’s true
I gave up trying to fit in when I was only two
The other kids made fun of me; it still goes on today
And so I came to realize my goal: to make them pay

And everywhere across the land you’ll find the ones like me
The wretched refuse, huddled messes longing to be free
The last one picked for every game, the first one to be teased
But now at last our time has finally come, and I’m so pleased

Cho: Oh, the odd get even, it’s poetic revenge
Deceivin’ you, thievin’ you too
Who’ll be grievin’ and be more than potentially
Blue? Why it’s you…

We ended up designing all that stuff you use each day
And made it all so tempting that you’ll never get away
From costly little doodads that monopolize your life
And labor saving widgets built to cause you pain and strife

Our word processing program makes your writing such a breeze
And then somehow deletes it when your hard drive has a freeze
And all the nasty viruses that plague your every hour
Who better to deliver them than us….muahahh, the power!

Cho: Oh, the odd get even, it’s poetic revenge
Deceivin’ you, thievin’ you too
Who’ll be grievin’ and be more than potentially
Blue? Why it’s you…

The student body president who also led the team
He fried his brain with cell phone rays, it worked just like a dream
And stuck up little Suzy who would never talk to me
Is paralyzed by botox twice a month heheheheeeeee

And while you all are struggling to pay for all this crap
We just collect our royalties while living in the lap
Of luxury from thinking up this stuff you think you need
Which only serves to waste your worthless life….revenge indeed!

Cho: Oh, the odd get even, it’s poetic revenge
Deceivin’ you, thievin’ you too
Who’ll be grievin’ and be more than potentially
Blue? Why it’s you…

Consider please your Mp3s and television shows
And you’ll always have Paris-Paris Hilton, I suppose
It isn’t just an accident your culture is so rich
We pre-digest and package it for you…ain’t life a bitch?

But if you ever sicken from this digital buffet
And find it a big zero, one from which you’d like to stray
Come join our crew there’s lots to do there’s still room on the bus
Imagine all the havoc we can wreak, you and us

Cho: Oh, the odd get even, it’s poetic revenge
Deceivin’ you, thievin’ you too
Who’ll be grievin’ and be more than potentially
Blue? Why it’s you…

Waiting For Love

I’ve been waiting for love to come back in style
I’ve been waiting, for what seems like such a long long while
While caring and compassion seem to be out of fashion
There’s a thousand frowns for every smile
I’ll keep waiting, for love to come on back in style

I’ve been dreaming, that things are about to change
I’ve been praying, that people will stop acting so strange
If this world’s to survive, we must keep hope alive
Even through the darkest trial
So I’ll keep waiting, for love to come on back in style

These are hard times for lovers
No one knows that better than I
These are hard times for lovers
But that’s no reason not to try

I’ve been thinking, that you might feel the way I do
I’ve been hoping, that you will let me know it’s true
It just takes two to make a new start
All you’ve got to do is open up your heart
Then there’ll be no more waiting for love to come back in style

April 18, 1906

One morning before 5:15 before the sun’s first rays were seen
Something in the air just seemed to call you
You stepped out in the silent street and felt the earth beneath your feet
Without a thought of what would soon befall you
The city lay enmeshed in sleep, had silence ever been this deep?
Or was this still a dream of your own making?
In answer came a rumbling sound, as if a moaning from the ground
And all the world around you started shaking
CHO: That’s when hell broke loose in Frisco on a quiet April dawn
And the city fell in ruins all around you
That’s the day that nature showed you that the world we walk upon
Has the power to destroy you and astound you
On Kearny Street the workers slept, while down below a young girl wept
In sorrow for the path that she had taken
In Chinatown the lonely men lay dozing in an opium den
And hoped that from this dream they’d never waken
And from his Palace Hotel room, a traveler stared into the gloom
And realized that ruin was upon him
While in the alley in the back, a hobo with his bindle sack
Lamented the bad luck that had undone him
CHO:
As buildings tumble to the street, the prayers of dying men compete
With groans from underneath the place they’ve fallen
The earth itself cries out in pain, it shudders once, and once again
And then is silent as the God they’re callin’
And all around the town the clocks bear silent witness to the shocks
While water mains lie shattered underground
Then someone shouts “beware the fire” and suddenly the flames leap higher
To hungrily devour the fallen town
CHO:
Br: A hundred years and more have passed since then
How can it be that I can see what you saw, feel what you felt again?

This morning before 5:15, before the sun’s first rays were seen
Somehow through the years I heard you calling

Your Eyes

I'd almost be over the hurting, the lying awake and the sighs
I swear I'd get through all this crying for you
If only it weren't for your eyes

I've told myself that you don't want me, we already said our good-byes
I'd learn how to laugh at your old photograph
If only it weren't for your eyes

Your eyes keep telling me that there's much more you want to see
When we begin to say our last farewell
And when your eyes meet mine I feel the love within them shine
And know there's more of this story yet to tell

And if our eyes lock for an instant, it always comes as a surprise
To see you still there when I'd think you don't care
If only it weren't for your eyes

Don't tell me to go find another, that there's as many as stars in the skies
I'm sure that it's true, and I wouldn't be blue
If only it weren't for your eyes

They see in my soul with such passion, it's crazy how they hypnotize
If you'd just turn away I could leave you today
If only it weren't for your eyes

Your eyes keep telling me that there's much more you want to see
When we begin to say our last farewell
And when your eyes meet mine I feel the love within them shine
And know there's more of this story yet to tell

I guess there's no way to forget you, not after a million tries
'Cause I could pretend this is really the end if only it weren't for your eyes
If you'd just turn away I could leave you today if only it weren't for your eyes
I swear I'd get through all this crying for you if only it weren't for your eyes
